Schiaparelli brooch

Item: For collectors of designer jewelry his is one of the most sought after Schiaparelli pieces. Like shells in a tidepool with whirling drops of saltwater spraying around it this brooch is a wonderful piece of art. This was made sometime in the late 1950s. It is signed on the reverse as seen in the second picture. This is in great condition and is a rare collectible brooch. Elsa Schiaparelli isn't as well known as her contemporaries such as Coco Chanel or Christian Dior who's names are well known by the general public years after their death and their iconic creations like Chanel's "Little Black Dress" or Dior's New Look part of the fashion lexicon. But Schiaparelli's work is considered by collectors and fashion historians as just as important. Her fascinating life included her marriage to a Count and friendships with some of the most influential artists of the day including the likes of Man Ray and Salvador Dali. Retiring in 1954 her fashion house closed in 1964 and 9 years later Elsa Schiaparelli died in Paris at the age of 83. Sadly Elsa never appointed a successor to her house or we would surely be seeing pieces coming down the runway every Fashion Week. She does however leave behind a well documented legacy and for fans and collectors alike. Any item that bears her name is a considered a real find. Once a good friend of mine and fellow antique dealer revealed to me her special drawer of prized Schiaparelli collectibles. As she pulled it open to unveil her precious cache Schiap's trademark shocking pink boxes were instantly recognizable. "Whenever I'm depressed I open this drawer and pull these out - I always feel better." Though this pin may not be your particular brand of Prozac I'm sure it will make you happy now and in the future!
